James Henry Martin, Sr.

James Henry Martin, Sr, age 78, husband of Katherine Smith Martin, and a resident of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Friday, July 15, 2022, at Maury Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at 3:30 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with James Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Creek Cemetery in Williamsport. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on February 18, 1944, in Maury County, James was the son of the late Howard Harlan Martin, Sr. and the late Mary Louise Frierson Martin. He was a high school graduate and married Katherine Smith on June 30, 1965. He worked over thirty-six years for the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation before retiring. James was a member of West Point Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on cars. James was a wonderful husband and father who will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, James Henry Martin, Jr. Katherine Diane (Joseph) Lawrence, Ezra (Deberth) Martin, Harvey (Christy) Martin, Jeffrey (Natina) Martin, brothers, Frank (Daisy) Martin, Lawrence (Carolyn) Martin, sister, Annie Louise Lyles, sixteen grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Walter Calvin Martin, Howard Harlan Martin, Emma Booker, Bobby Martin, and John Martin.

Pallbearers will be Cory Martin, Charlie Mitchell, Keith Gordon, Rodney Cooper, Sr., Kenneth Pickens, and Corwin Height.

Acting as Honorary Pallbearer is his grandson Kevin Veroy.
