Mr. James “Jim” Meredith McGrew, Jr., age 79, husband of Marie Ensey McGrew, and a resident of Cranford Hollow Road in Columbia, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Lory Catlett officiating. Burial will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens. A visitation will also be held on Saturday from 12:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
A native of Columbia, Jim was born on July 27, 1942, and was the son of the late James Meredith McGrew, Sr. and the late Mattie Ruth Gabell McGrew. He was a 1960 graduate of Columbia Central High School and worked over thirty years for First Horizon Bank, previously First Tennessee Bank, before retiring as a Senior Vice President in 2008. Jim was a true outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and going to the river. One of his greatest passions was cooking. He had a special love for his dogs, but above all, Jim loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of thirty years, Marie Ensey McGrew, daughters, Susan (Steven) Sherman of Nashville, Mary Ruth (Joey) Cromer of Columbia, Christy Curtis of Nashville, grandchildren, Spencer Sherman, Sean Sherman, Katie Cromer, Carey Cromer, Amanda (Preston) Shaffer, Reagan (Mason) Mitchell, Jordan Eledge, Tess Eledge, and great grandchildren, Macy Shaffer and Rylan Landreth.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Eledge.
Pallbearers will be Joey Cromer, Steven Sherman, Preston Shaffer, Gary Allen, Spencer Sherman, and Ron Lowery.
Honorary pallbearers will include John McCord, John Coleman Hayes, and the officers of First Horizon Bank.
