James William Johnson, 84, resident of Columbia, passed away December 31, 2019 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 25th in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Weaver officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM Saturday to service time at Heritage Funeral Home.

Born March 7, 1935 in Talladega, AL, James was the son of the late William Johnson and Hazel McCarroll Johnson and husband of Sylvia Jones Johnson. He worked as a general foreman in the GM Guide Division and was dedicated to the Jehovah’s Witness faith in 2006. James loved to fish, work in the garden, cook and do remodeling. He had a favorite saying: “Whatever you do, do it to the best of your ability and don’t let anyone disrespect you”.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons: Stephen Johnson, Shawn (Karen) Johnson and DeWayne Moore (Natalie May); daughters: Lynn Johnson (Ron) Peden and Michelle Moore; sister: Marie Sullis; brothers: Lee Roy Johnson, Paul Johnson and Thomas Johnson; grandchildren: Heather, Justin, Derek, Lillian, Ashley, Shawn Jr., D’Andre, Austin, Ariana, Christian and James; 8 great grandchildren; special friend/brother: Malcom Adams. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: James LaMonte Johnson; brother: Smith Johnson and sisters: Thomasee Johnson, Doris Avery and Loretta Robinson.
