April 4, 1938 - October 13, 2019

Mr. Jerry Freeman “Cowboy” Johnson, age 81, a resident of Columbia, passed away Sunday morning, October 13, 2019 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 17 in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Richard VanCleave officiating. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home.

Born April 4, 1938 in Pulaski, he was the son of the late Edward Johnson and Nell Griggs Minatra and husband of Doris Polley Johnson. Jerry was a self employed master electrician and a veteran of the US Air Force. He trained Quarter horses for Sonny Ledbetter, a founding member of the Columbia Bridle and Saddle Club, did square dancing, line dancing and he loved animals, especially his best friend “Prissy”.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Billy (Sarah) Johnson of Williamsport, Jerrie (Bobby) Adams of Columbia and Kiesha (Jackie) Gray of Summertown; brothers: Ray (Karen) Johnson and Ricky Johnson, both of Culleoka; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in in death by his parents, a brother: Larry “Monk” Johnson and a sister: Kay Hamlett.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the American Cancer Society.
