Mrs. Jewell Shouse, age 83, resident of Goshen Road in Santa Fe, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2019 surrounded by her loving family at her residence.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 21 st at 11:00AM with Joe Bowers, Chaplain Mike Dodrill, and Keith Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the Goshen Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday, August 20 th from 4:00PM – 8:00PM and again on Wednesday from 10:00AM until the service hour at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jewell was born in 1936 in Maury County and was the daughter of the late Hubert C. Baker and the late Maggie Sue Beasley Baker. Her first date was one day before her sixteenth birthday because her parents would not let her go on a date until she turned 16. That date was with her husband J.W. Shouse whom she married on her 20 th birthday, February 10, 1956. She graduated as Valedictorian from Santa Fe High School in 1954. Two weeks after graduating, she went to work for South Central Bell Telephone Company. It wasn’t long after she had her daughter, Jackie Shouse. After Jackie was born, she devoted her life to being a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was known for her delicious chocolate chip cookies that her son loved so much.
Jewell was a lifelong member of Goshen Methodist Church. She served as Treasurer for the church for many years. She was the writer for the Water Valley News that was published in The Daily Herald for many years. She was a member of the Water Valley FCE Club and was a member of the Santa Fe United Methodist Women’s Group. She was instrumental in the compiling of the Maury County Tennessee History Book.
Along with her loving husband of 63 years J.W. Shouse, she is survived by her son, Joey (Tammy) Shouse of Santa Fe; grandchildren, J.T. Shouse of Santa Fe and Jennifer Shouse (Cody Slaughter) of Santa Fe; brother, Cecil (Marilyn) Baker of Santa Fe; sister, Rheta (James) Wilkins of Cookeville; special friend, Jordan Justice; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Jackie Shouse November 3, 1978.
Pallbearers will be Randy Maxwell, Winfred Baker, Keith Baker, Randy Gardner, Jerry Gardner, Henry Harris, Kenneth Davis, and Travis Warf. Honorary pallbearers will be Members of the Goshen Methodist Church, Santa Fe High School Class of 1954, and nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Avalon Hospice for all the care and compassion given during her illness.
