Mr. James “Jim” E. Thurman, age 74, a resident of Franklin, previously of Columbia, passed away Monday morning, December 7, 2020, at the Belvedere Commons of Franklin.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home. A graveside service will also be held on Wednesday at 12 p.m. at Polk Memorial Gardens with Pastor Mylan Coble officiating. Military honors will be provided by United States Army. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on May 25, 1946 in Columbia, Jim was the son of the late William Edgar Thurman and the late Carrie Wise Thurman. He was a 1965 graduate of Columbia Central High School where he was the pitcher of the baseball team. He was in the United States Army from 1965-1967 serving as a military police officer. Jim worked 43 years for Occidental Chemical Company before retiring in 2000. He was an avid Tennessee Vols football fan and had a great sense of humor. Jim was a devoted Christian and of the Baptist faith. Above all, he loved his family, especially his granddaughters.
He is survived by his son, Eric Thurman of Columbia; daughter, Jennifer (Nabil) Kalifa of Nashville; brother, Jerry (Sandra) Thurman of Manchester; and grandchildren: Ahlia Kalifa and Zaynab Kalifa.
Pallbearers will be: Nabil Kalifa, Wesley Bryant, W.L. Culberson, Scott Bryant, Robin Starr, and John Bryant. Harry Mack Bryant will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
