Jimmie Jackson, age 82, resident of Williamsport, passed away Friday, May 8, 2020 at his residence.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at 11AM in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 16 th from 10am until the service hour. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jackson was born in Williamsport and was the son of the late George Jackson, Sr. and the late Frances Rebecca Johnson. He was a graduate from Carver Smith, Columbia TN. He worked for the City of Columbia supervising the Sanitation Department for 37 years. He was so dedicated to his job that even when his car wasn’t working, he would get up in enough time to walk from Williamsport to Columbia to make it on time. He never was late and never missed a day. He enjoyed farming and raising cows and hogs. In his earlier days he rode horses and enjoyed riding motorcycles. He was a lifetime and dedicated member of Claiborne Chapel AME Church.
Jackson is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Delore Jackson of Williamsport; son: James Mitchell Scates of Centerville; daughters: LaQuita Lockridge of Cleveland, OH, and Daphne Braden of Columbia, Clabie Pillow, Albretha (Larry) Ennis, Janice (Kerry) Brown, and Teresa Brooks; brother: George H. (Nadine) Jackson of Columbus, GA; grandchildren: Rodney D. (Rakita) Lockridge, Raven Lockridge, Raquel Lockridge, Riley Lockridge, and Rolanda Brown; great grandchildren: Eboni Brown, Evari Wisener, Rodney K. Lockridge, Reison Lockridge, Kaydence Wade, and one on the way that he was very excited about; special extended family: Shantell Kennedy and Jaz Bellafant; cousin that was like a brother: Frank Cooper; cousins: James Walter Cooper, Charolotte Davis, and Craig Cooper; niece: Tracy Jackson (Roderick) Lewis of Charlotte, NC; nephew: Vincent C. Jackson of San Juan, PR; along with many other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Rodney T. Lockridge, Terry Yokley, Dewayne Waire, Marshall Brooks, Mike Shipp, Jeff Cathey, Rory Ghant, and Nate Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be all the employees of the City of Columbia Sanitation Department and all his very special friends of the Williamsport Community.
