Joann Armstrong

January 23, 1939 — August 13, 2020

JoAnn Snipes Armstrong, age 81, a resident of Columbia, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2020 at NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care Center.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 20 th at 1:00 pm at Heritage Funeral Home with Elder Eric Satterfield and Elder George Bullock officiating.  Burial will follow in Pinecrest Cemetery.  There will be a walk through visitation held on Wednesday, August 19 th from 1-4pm with a private family and close friends visitation held immediately following from 4-7pm at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

JoAnn was born in Maury County on January 23, 1939 and was the daughter of the late Marvin and Lucille Snipes.  She was a 1957 Carver Smith High graduate and went on to get her medical terminology degree at Columbia State Community College.  JoAnn was a lady of class, always dressed nice and had won “best dressed” awards at several churches.  She was a devoted long-time member of East 8 th Street Church of God and served many roles including the sanctuary choir and serving on the mother’s board.  After working at General Electric for twenty-five years she worked for NHC Hillview and NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care Center for twenty-four years, calling them her second family. She loved work and the social aspect that it had.  She always greeted everyone with a smile and never met a stranger.  Some of her hobbies included shopping, going to casinos, cooking, and baking.  She was also part of helping get a line dancing class started six years ago at the American Legion that she enjoyed.  She loved her children and grandchildren.  She will be missed by all who knew her.

JoAnn is survived by her children: Eric Armstrong of Louisville, KY, Phyllis Armstrong of Columbia, TN, Pamela Armstrong of Atlanta, GA, and Takisha Armstrong of Columbia, TN; brother: Mark Snipes of Columbia; sister: Lois Jean Snipes of Columbia; brother in law: Randolph Armstrong; grandchildren: Calen Slaughter, Kevontis Jordan, and Lauren Jefferson; and great grandchildren: Kevontis Jordan, Jr. and S’Niah Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, close family and friends.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death in 2006 by her husband of forty-nine years, Edward Morton Armstrong; sister: Irene Mathers; daughter in law: Sandra Yuette Armstrong; sisters in laws: Theatrice Waire and Willie Louise Turrentine; and brothers in laws: Bernice Waire and Willis Armstrong.

JoAnn’s nephews and cousins will serve as pallbearers and her nieces and cousins will serve as flower ladies.  Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Edward Moore, all the former and present employees of NHC Hillview and NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care Center, and the Elders and Deacons of East 8 th Street Church of God in Columbia.

The family requests that all those attending wear a mask.
