Joan Bowen of Columbia, Tennessee

Joan Bowen, age 91, a resident of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away Thursday morning, October 5, 2023, at her residence.

Born on July 18, 1932, in Baltimore, Maryland, Joan was the daughter of the late William Eugene Buffington and the late Eva Gertrude Sakers; she was a wonderful woman and mother. She married Oliver Leroy Bowen and together they shared over sixty years. As a child, she organized scrap collections for the war effort and later she taught herself fluid dynamics and hydraulics to help her husband pass his exams for the Baltimore Fire Department. At sixty-seven, she was the General Contractor on her home in Maury County, Tennessee, where she and her husband lived out their final years.

She leaves behind two children, Bonnie Lee Brown and Michael Leroy Bowen, two grandchildren, Alison Marie Flores and Michael Lee Bowen, and three great grandchildren, JD Flores, Joseph Flores, and Katie Flores.

Heritage Funeral Home in Columbia is assisting the family with arrangements.
