Mr. John “Jack” Jacob Heidi, Jr., age 73, husband of Christine Young Heidi, and a resident of Columbia, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2023, at Magnolia Healthcare.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 12:00 PM with Father Daniel Reehil at St. Catherine Catholic Church, 3019 Cayce Lane, Columbia, Tennessee. Burial will follow at Maury Memorial Gardens in The Garden of Freedom with military honors provided by the United States Army. A visitation will also be held on Friday, April 14, 2023, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. The family will announce the details of a gathering after the Saturday funeral mass and burial. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on February 15, 1950, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Jack was the son of the late John Heidi, Sr. and the late Eleanor Lipps Heidi. He served our country in the U.S. Army. In April 1973, Jack married Christine, and they were married for 50 years. He was a journeyman tool and die maker working greater than forty years with General Motors. His talents were endless and with major contributions including “Heidi” wires for Saturn. He was extraordinarily creative man of many talents and interests. He enjoyed woodworking (bowls and benches), building furniture, fishing, spending time on the farm, gardening, trains and spending time with family. Jack was known as a very giving person. He was always the first to volunteer when help was needed. He was blessed with grandkids and loved spending extra time with them. He was a member of St. Catherine Church for 30 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Nicole (Shane) Hickman of Columbia, Dr. Melissa Heidi of Cincinnati, OH, Allison (Brandon) Harris of Columbia, brothers, Bob (Betty) Heidi of St. Leon, IN, Paul Heidi of Cincinnati, OH, sister, Rosemary (Jack) Acker of Maple Shade, NJ, grandchildren, Lexi Hickman, Adison Hickman, Jaxton Hickman, Thomas Harris, Lauren Harris, grand horses, Cheyenne and Dakota; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Becknell.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Harris, Patrick Becknell, Kerry Thacker, Bob Heidi, Zak Heidi, Kristi Heidi, and Jimmy Acker. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Steinkamp , Jeff Bowling, and the staff at Magnolia Healthcare.
The family requests in Jack’s memory to plant a tree or make a donation to an organization for dementia or long-term care.
