John Morris “Johnny” Scoggin, son of John William Scoggin and Nancye Keach Scoggin and husband of Jill Lane Scoggin, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025, at the age of 70.

A funeral service will take place at Heritage Funeral Home, 609 Bear Creek Pike, Columbia, TN 38401, on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 6:00 PM, with visitation scheduled from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Cremation will follow the service. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Johnny spent his younger years living in many different places as the middle child of five of a military family. He spent his career days as a certified respiratory therapist working at many different hospitals in Tennessee and surrounding areas providing care to numerous patients. Many stories and silly songs were created, by him, using the stories of his adventures, experiences and travels in his teens, 20s and 30s and told to anyone that would listen.

Some of the things that brought him joy in life were spending time with family, writing poems, listening to music at full volume, watching westerns, farming/gardening, building anything from a coffee table to a chicken coop, and cooking everything but casseroles. He was a proud and loving husband, dad, papa, and brother. Those that knew him best would describe him as tough, stubborn as a mule, patriotic and always cutting up and being silly. You could always find him outside in his elaborate backyard garden checking on something he planted or tending to his chickens and pigs. He loved to share his passion for these things with his family and was always trying to convince you to get your own “homestead”. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Denton “Bob” Scoggin of Clarksville and Thomas Gilbert “Tom” Scoggin of Springfield.

Johnny is survived by his wife, Jill “Jillie” Lane Scoggin of Columbia, his daughter; Cassie Nicole Pyle (Micah) of Spring Hill, his son; John Denton Jubal Scoggin (Callie) of Waynesboro, his sister; Carolyn Keach “Carol” Shearon (Bill) of Paris, his brother; James Houston “Jamie” Scoggin (Dani) of San Diego, his granddaughters; Audrey Brooks Pyle and Lena Grace Scoggin, and many nieces and nephews.
