Johnnie R. Riggins, age 89, a resident of Columbia, passed away Friday, January 29, 2021 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 2nd, in the Garden of Freedom at Maury Memorial Gardens with Chaplin Eddie Rogers officiating and military honors provided by the American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday from 12 Noon until 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home.
Born August 23, 1931 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Jesse and Maude Turpin Riggins and the husband of Nina Glover Riggins for 65 years. Mr. Riggins owned and operated a barber shop for 40 years. He did cattle farming, gardening, hunting, fishing and loved reading. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War, receiving a bronze star and several other medals.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his son: Johnnie Ryan (Charlotte) Riggins of Maryville; daughters: Renee (Ronnie) Vann and Wanda Harman, both of Columbia; grandchildren: Heather (Cliff) Millikan, Holly (Jason) Sperker, Hope (Trenton) Andrews, Nicholas (Natalie) Harmon and Josh Riggins; 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Leroy Riggins, Ruben Riggins, Jesse, Riggins and Jimmy Riggins; his sisters: Katherine Harwell and Ruth Hickman.
