Mr. Jon Dale Scott, age 77, husband of Jeannette Scott, and a resident of Columbia, passed away Tuesday evening, January 5, 2021 at Select Specialty Hospital in Nashville.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 2:30PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Minister David Morris and Education Minister Brian Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Freedom in Maury Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the United States Air Force. A visitation will also be held on Saturday from 12:30-2:30PM at the funeral home. The service will be live streamed at https://www.tnfunerals.com/page/webcasting . Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on November 29, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa, Jon was the son of the late Dale John Scott and the late Helen Bisher Scott. He served twenty-one years in the United States Air Force before retiring in 1988. Jon later worked twenty-three years for Boeing Defense Company before retiring in 2012. He married Jeannette Anderson on February 10, 1990. Jon’s biggest hobby was playing golf with his mates, and they played twice a week at Stoneybrook Golf Course. He was a member of the Clan Scott Society and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Jon was very grounded in his family and his faith in Jesus Christ. It was important to him to keep in touch with his out of state family and visit them as often as he could. He was a devoted member of Highland Church of Christ where he served as a deacon.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Cameron Wayne Scott of Murfreesboro, TN; daughter, Tonya Elizabeth Scott (John) Rubio of Murfreesboro, TN; sister, Carol Scott Myers of Collins, IA; mother and father in law, Roy Lee & Charlotte Anderson; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons: Dale Leo Scott and Shawn Gregory Scott; sister, Karen Lea Scott Johnson; and brothers in law: Verl Myers and Bob Johnson.
Pallbearers will be: Dale Jon Lee Rubio, John D. Rubio, Doug Atkinson, Curtis Cross, Clayton Brady, and Patrick Burger.
Honorary pallbearers will include: Jon’s nephews: Mike Johnson, Steve Johnson, Jim Myers, Joe Myers, his father in law, Roy Lee Anderson, and the elders and deacons of Highland Church of Christ.
