Julian David Cole, Jr., 69, resident of Lewisburg, passed away Friday, May 31 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 4 in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Jeremy Butt officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Monday at Heritage Funeral Home in Columbia. Pallbearers will be Stan Coffman, Paul Wallace, Robbie Hammond, Monty Uptain, Jeremy Taft, Terry Kelley, Bob Jones and Marcus McAnally.

Born June 3, 1949 in Columbia, he was the son of the late Julian David Cole, Sr. and the late Addie Fly Cole. Dave graduated from Columbia Central High School where he co-captained the football team and earned all-state honors his senior year. He continued playing at MTSU from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972. He served as a Captain in the US Air Force, assigned to the Strategic Air Command as a B-52G Radar Navigator and Bombardier. Following his service, Dave joined the Air National Guard and later worked as a Senior Technical Writer for ICP in Lewisburg, from which he retired in 2014.

Dave lived life to its fullest and was a true adventurer and outdoorsman. In addition to being an avid hunter and fisherman, he also enjoyed a number of other hobbies over the years, including stock car racing, snow skiing, water skiing, golfing, camping, boating and four wheeling with friends and family. He had a lifelong love for UT Vol football and an equal amount of hate for the Crimson Tide. Dave never met a stranger, and his vast life experiences allowed him to find common interests with everyone he encountered. He was an extraordinary storyteller, a history and wildlife expert, and a loving father, brother, and son. His greatest joy in his later years was spending time with his granddaughters, particularly during the family’s annual beach trip to Tybee Island.

He is survived by his children: Julian David Cole, III of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Sally Jo Cole Freeman of Roswell, GA, and Brooke (Guy) Clark of Independence, KY; grandchildren: Ella Clark, Addie Clark, Rose Freeman, Madison Freeman, Gracie Freeman; sisters: Carolyn (Edward) Jarrett of Columbia and Mary Lee (Stan) Coffman of Culleoka. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters: Evelyn Harwood, Joanne Ramsey, Claire Jean Malugin, Bettye Grigsby and Janice Uptain.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Nursing Scholarship Fund, c/o 40-8, American Legion Post 19, 812 Nashville Hwy., Columbia, TN 38401.
