Lanny Mccandless

Mr. Lanny Ross McCandless, age 82, a resident of Summertown, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System in Lawrenceburg.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2020 at 2PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Micky Brackin and Keith Baker officiating. Entombment will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with military honors provided by the United States Army. A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 from 3-7PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on July 19, 1937 in Maury County, Lanny was the son of the late Fleming McCandless and the late Nettie Minerva Holt Berry. He served his country in the United States Army from 1956-1958 and worked thirty-five years as a lineman for the TVA. He loved fishing, camping at Naco, riding his golf cart and going to antique car shows. Lanny also enjoyed old lawnmowers and in his younger years often coached softball. Above all, he loved his family, especially his great grandchildren who he was always sharing jokes with. Lanny attended Mars Hill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his daughters: Rhonda McCandless of Summertown, Brenda (Clint) Cowley of Summertown; brothers: Harry (Peggy) McCandless of Ethridge, Carnell (Sheila) McCandless of Lynnville; sisters: Bonnie Dale of Lewisburg, Margie Faye (Eddie) Estes of Columbia, Linda (Bobby) Howell of Spring Hill; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; special niece, Sheila Matthews; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Terry McCandless; brothers: Jerry, Roy, and James McCandless; and brother in law, William Dale.

Pallbearers will be: Josh Smith, Tracy Smith, Jake Stutts, Ryan Reynolds, Tim McCandless, Phillip McCandless, and Brent McCandless.

Honorary pallbearers will include: the past and present employees of TVA, Zac & Ashley Hennessy, TJ & Heather McCandless, Kiesha & Jackie Gray, Amy Reynolds, Nikkie Brownell, and Petey Ridley.
