Larry Ray Morgan, Sr.

Mr. Larry Ray Morgan, Sr., husband of Joann Morgan, a resident of Columbia, passed away Monday, July 5, 2021, on his 73 ^rd birthday.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at 10:00 AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Carl McCullen and Darryl Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the United States Army. A visitation will also be held on Saturday from 8:00 – 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on July 5, 1948, in Memphis, Tennessee, Larry was the son of the late Roger Morgan and the late Ethel Tines Morgan. He was a 1966 graduate of Hamilton High School in Memphis and married Joann Cunningham on July 10, 1990. He served four years in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. While in service, he was an airborne paratrooper, completing sixty-five jumps. Larry worked thirty-eight years for General Motors before retiring in 2016. He enjoyed doing yardwork, collecting change, playing dominos, and working Sudoku puzzles. Above all, Larry loved getting together with his family, grilling, barbecuing, and celebrating holidays. It was a top priority of his to always put his family first and provide and care for them.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Philanders Cunningham of Memphis, Tamika Paige (Shawn) of Memphis, Terri (Reginald) Webster of Columbia, Larry Morgan of Columbia, Joshua Morgan (Sabrina Hargrove) of Murfreesboro, brothers, Charles Morgan of Memphis, Randy Morgan of Memphis, grandchildren, Chastiney, Ebony, Alexus, Shania, Brittany, Marvin, Kiara, Jayden, Javon, Angela, Reginald, Jr. “RJ,” Laiken, and six great grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Felicia Spearman, son in law, Marvin Spearman, grandmother, Minnie Marie Tucker, grandfather, Joseph Tucker, and aunt, Vercie Starks.

Pallbearers will be Jermaine Webster, Joseph Brown, Jr., Bobby Lacy, Terry Nevette, D.J. Daniel, Mike Miller, and Harry Douglas, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will include Larry Morgan, Joshua Morgan, Reginald Webster, Philanders Cunningham, Demaro “Paco” Liggons, Alston Enyard, Kenrick Hobson, and Brandon Benderman.

Flower girls will be Candice Lewis, Kassandra Greene, and Malajah Davis. Honorary flower girls will include Shania Spearman, Ebony Paige, Alexus Paige, Chastiney Thompson, Brittany Thompson, Lilly Irvin, Khori “Cakes” Lipscomb, and LaTesha Burkeen.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dana Whitt and her staff, Cassie Mathers, and Ebony Spearman for their care and compassion for Mr. Morgan.
