Mrs. Lula Mae Dooley was born on November 15, 1943, and was the daughter of the late J.D. Nicholson and the late Elnora Lockridge Nicholson. She departed this life on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Life Care Center of Columbia.
She professed a hope in Christ at an early age at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. JS Harris. She served faithfully until she united with her husband and moved to Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant, where she served faithfully on the usher board and helped in the kitchen. She was also a member of the American Legion Post 170.
She was a dental assistant for many years for Dr. Robert Stack. She did work for Graymere County Club, worked for Mt. Pleasant High School as a cook, and worked at St. Paul Day Care.
She was united in holy matrimony to Don Dooley in 1969, and they were happily married until his death.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and Betty Louise Nicholson.
She leaves behind to cherish her loving memories her devoted daughter, Sharnell (Michael) Poulson, a loving son, Derrick Dooley, children, Don (Bridgett) Dooley, Jr., Vivian McKnight, Wanda Grandberry, Dexter (Roslyn) Dooley, Deborah Dooley, Demeturis (Shawn) Dooley, and Yolanda Dooley, seventeen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren, one great great grandchild. She also leaves behind loving brothers, James (Jean) Nicholson, Dennis (Lisa) Nicholson, sisters in law, Katherine Harlan, Elaine “Pee Wee” Dawson, Carolyn Pillow, Gail Wilkes, Lillian Brown, aunt, Geneva Patrick, one God daughter, Rosetta Pillow, devoted cousin, Thessly Nicholson, devoted friends, Mickie Cannon, Velvet Harlan, Faye Hampton, Mary Ann Lockett, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Her body will lie in state on Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Jaysen Lacy Dooley, Rudy Harlan, Wayne Duke. Those serving as flower bearers will be granddaughters, Kresha Lee, Rosetta Pillow, Chandler Hayes. Honorary flower bearers will be Rose Cannon, Velvet Harlan, Mary Ann Lockett, Faye Hampton, and members of Carver Smith High School Class of 1961.
