Malissa B. Cooper, age 98, a resident of Williamsport, passed away Friday, May 13, 2022, at NHC Columbia.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022, from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM with Rev. Linda Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.  The family will be practicing social distancing.

Born on May 7, 1924, in Maury County, Malissa was the daughter of the late Charlie Nicholson and the late Georgia Mai Gresham Nicholson. She received her education through the Maury County School System by attending the school of College Hill. She professed her life to the Lord at an early age and was a devoted member of the Claiborne Chapel AME Church and her community as long as her health permitted. She was united in holy matrimony to Claude Cooper for fifty-four years, residing in the Williamsport Community as a loving person for all those who came to know her. She will forever be remembered for her dedication to church activities, love of family gatherings, travel, and music. Her blossoming porch and yard of flowers were also known to be a breath of inspiration.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her children, Frederick and Roderick Cooper, and siblings, Wiley, Samella, Irene, Edna, Charlie Jr., James, Frederick, and Bennie Nicholson.

She leaves to cherish her memories her devoted sons, Marvin (Patty) Cooper of Williamsport, and Claude (Attorney Rita Cooper) Cooper, Jr. of Williamsport, devoted daughter, Theresa (Anthony) Sharp of Columbia, caring nephew, Jeffrey (Lynn) Cathey and niece Sharon Turrentine, loving grandchildren, Malissa (Derrick) Stoudymire, Marvin (Silvia) Cooper II,  Roddreckus Cooper, Rasheéd Cooper, Ashley Cooper, Dustin (Amy) Sharp, Davin (Brittney) Sharp, and Duran Sharp, three great grandchildren, Jaythan, Oakley, Ta’Liyah, and a host of loving friends, relatives, and devoted neighbors.
