A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 11, 2023, at 12 noon at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens. A visitation will also be held on Monday from 10:00AM – 12:00PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Marian was born on August 28, 1942, the fourth child of Marion “Tubby” Grimsley and Agatha Parham Grimsley of Twiggs County, Georgia. The family moved to Macon, Georgia, in 1956, and Marian attended McEvoy High School. Following her graduation with honors in 1960, she worked as a posting clerk for C&S Bank, beginning what would become a long career in accounting. In 1961, she married Edmund Barry Colson (Barry). Marian and Barry lived with their two children, Gregg and Neal, in several states during their sixty-two years of marriage. Over the years, she held both full-time and contract positions with multiple firms as a full charge bookkeeper, including a few years as financial manager for the Nashville Ballet. She loved to travel and was fortunate enough to visit various U.S. cities on business trips with Barry and during family vacation with their sons. She attended church at West Franklin Baptist Church and enjoyed playing hymns on the piano. Marian loved collecting coins, working cross-stitch, crocheting afghans, sewing home décor and clothing, and cooking for family. She will be sorely missed by a family that deeply admired and respected her.
She is survived by her husband, Barry Colson of Spring Hill, sons, Gregg (Rick) Colson of Virginia, Neal (Brandie) Colson of Spring Hill, brother, Billy (Diane) Grimsley of Georgia, sister, Kay (Jim) Spear of Indiana, and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Marian’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38108, www.stjude.org.
