Martha Sue Thurman, age 87, a resident of Columbia, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2021, at her daughter’s residence in Hampshire.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at 12:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rock Jaggers officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. A visitation will also be held on Wednesday from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
A native of Maury County, Martha was born on April 17, 1934, and was the daughter of the late Holbert McKinley Boswell and the late Rosa Mae Buie Boswell. She worked at every shirt factory that was ever open in Maury County, and she was very good at her job. She loved gardening, especially tomatoes and roses and enjoyed cooking for her family. She loved going to the river and spending time on the water, and in her younger years, she often enjoyed fishing. Above all, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Martha was a member of Faith Pentecostal Church in Columbia.
She is survived by her children, Ronnie (Vera) Thurman of Columbia, Kathy Henson of Columbia, Deanna (Rock) Jaggers of Hampshire, grandchildren, Ben Henson, Jennifer (Clay) Gilliam, Casey (Lee) Sensat, Heather (Cliff) Millikan, Holly (Jason) Sperker, Hope (Trenton) Andrews, Laurie (Corey) Hood, Vicki (Lee) Shumate, great grandchildren, Codell, Brooklyn, and Carter Gilliam, Autumn, Addison, and Willow Sensat, Sofie, Colton, Cody, and Tanner Millikan, Addison and Erich Sperker, Daniel Yancey, Cole Hood, and Elizabeth (Casey) Johnson, great great grandchildren, Abby and Jenson Yancey, special friend, Buster Billington, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton “Buck” Thurman, infant daughter, Kimberly Dawn Thurman, sisters, Rachel Ketchum, Lucy Brown, Cora Fulmer, Ina Carol Black, and brothers, Calvin, William, John, and Ernest Boswell.
Pallbearers will be Rick Miller, Jamie Turnbo, Lee Shumate, Dwight Boswell, Greg Ketchum, Doug Johnson, Roy Glass, and Codell Gilliam. Honorary pallbearers will include Milton Blackford, Buster Billington, Mike Goatz, Ronnie Riggins, Ted Ring, Donnie Joe Cothran, and Clay Harris.
