Marvis June Arthur Palmer

Mrs. Marvis June Arthur Palmer, age 73, wife of Herman Palmer, and a resident of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at her residence.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 16, 2022, at 3:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Jason Caddy officiating. A visitation will also be held on Sunday from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on September 18, 1948, in New Market, Iowa, Marvis was the daughter of the late Carl Arthur and the late Bernice Miller Arthur. She was a graduate of New Market High School and previously worked as a beautician. She married Herman Palmer on August 11, 1968, and together they traveled quite extensively during his tenure in the United States Navy, living in San Diego, CA to New London, CT, Norfolk, VA, and finally Charleston, SC. Marvis was a member of Grace Church of the Nazarene where she served on the church board and was a mission’s leader. She worked at the Pregnancy Center of Columbia and was a counselor at the Hope House. Marvis loved horses and had them most of her life. She was a very special woman who loved her family unconditionally and will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

In addition to her husband, Herman of fifty-four years, she is survived by her sons, Tim (Teresa) Gossett of St. Joseph, MO, Jeremy Palmer of Hendersonville, TN, Matthew (Aashima) Palmer of Potomac, MD, daughter, Heather (Jeremy) Shiffer of Hendersonville, TN, sister, Janice (Melvin) Hargis of New Market, IA, and grandchildren, Gage Gossett, Chandler Gossett, Carrigan Gossett, Adia Shiffer, Isabelle Shiffer, Delanie Palmer, Tristen Palmer, Siya Palmer, Ahaan Palmer, and Sydney Stark.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Marvin Arthur and sister, Phyllis Brown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Pregnancy Centers of Middle Tennessee, 704 Dunnington St, Columbia, TN 38401.
