Mary Elise Anderson

Mary Elise Jones Anderson, age 91, a resident of Columbia, passed away Friday, June 9, 2023, at NHC Columbia. Elise was the wife of the late Richard Glynn Anderson.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Reverend Bill Rolman officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Promise in Maury Memorial Gardens. Elise’s nephews and family will serve as pallbearers. A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2023, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM and again on Monday from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on August 7, 1931, in Howell Hollow of the Nebo Community in Maury County, Elise was the tenth of eleven children born to Jim Jones and Maude Mae Love Jones. The Jones family all called her by the nickname “Bobbie.” She married Richard Glynn Anderson on September 18, 1952, and together they had two children. She worked for many years at First Federal Savings and Loan. Elise and Glynn enjoyed music and dancing. When young, they were members of the Wagon Wheelers and danced at events across the southeast. At a young age she was baptized in the waters of Bigby Creek at Cross Bridges Baptist Church and attended Pleasant Mount Cumberland Presbyterian Church for many years. Family meant everything to Elise and her love and support was unconditional.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Gayle (Tony) Malugin of Columbia, son, Michael Glynn (Patty) Anderson of Columbia, and grandchildren, Eli Glynn Anderson, Natalie Lynn Anderson, Kaylee Elise (Chase) Laws, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Glynn Anderson, and ten brothers and sisters, James Howard Jones, Ewell Jasper Jones, Eva Marie Witherspoon, Lela Mae Hinson, Chester Herbert Jones, Rachel Blanch Jones, Clifford Mahlon Jones, Luther Porter “Bill” Jones, Eunice Arline Wells, and Frank Leslie Jones, Sr.
