Mary Elizabeth "Lib" Copley

Mary Elizabeth “Lib” Copley, age 93, a resident of Copley Lane in the Shady Grove Community passed away Friday evening, April 3, 2020 at NHC Lewisburg.

A private graveside service will be held on Monday at Stand Cemetery in the Shady Grove Community with Rick Points officiating. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on July 28, 1926 in Hickman County, Lib was the daughter of the late Sam Henry George and the late Dora Ethel Ardry George. She was the valedictorian of the class of 1944 at Hickman County High School. After graduating high school, she worked as a telephone operator. She married George Allen Copley, Jr. on February 8, 1946; he preceded her in death on January 31, 2003. Lib loved to crochet and quilt and was known for her wonderful chocolate toffee. She was a faithful member of Shady Grove Church of Christ. Lib will be remembered for her positive attitude and always having a smile on her face.

She is survived by her sons: Wayne (Nava) Copley of Arnold, Maryland, Jerry Copley of Hixson, Tennessee; daughter in law, Pamela Copley of Shady Grove, Tennessee; grandchildren: Christopher (Melisse) Copley, George (Zuri) Copley, Steffenee Copley, Brantley Copley, Rachel Copley, Jacob Copley, Rebecca Copley, Coventry (Joey) Goodner, Erin (Mark) Hendricks, Sarah Copley Haskin, April Copley (Austin) Goltz, Henry Copley; and eleven great grandchildren.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Jeff Copley on April 20, 2019; brothers: Mervin George and Paul George; and sister, Frances Botner.
