Mary "Faye" Reed

Mary “Faye” Reed, age 75, a resident of Rippey Lake Road in Mt. Pleasant, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at NHC Columbia after a brief battle with cancer.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 3:30 PM at The Lighthouse Church: 2000 Williamsport Pike, Columbia, TN 38401 with Bro. Larry Reed and Pastor Darrell Thrasher officiating. Burial will follow in Napier Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 3-8PM at the church. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on February 20, 1944 in Wyandotte, Michigan, Faye was the daughter of the late Tom Reed and the late Cleo Jones Reed. After a short time in Michigan, her family moved to Tennessee where she graduated from Summertown High School. She went on to cosmetology school and later opened her own business in Columbia. Faye met the love of her life and married Charlie Smith who was a great father to her children, Misty and Buddy. She loved to sew and was often making something for her family, especially her “grand-girls,” Jana and Autumn, who were able to help take such good care of her and spend every day with her before she became sick. She adored her beloved fur babies, Prince and Mac. Her favorite color was purple and she loved flowers and hummingbirds. She was an avid collector of anything Mickey Mouse or Elvis. Faye loved her family with all she had and made sure everyone knew it!

She is survived by her daughter, Misty Lafay South (Jeffrey) Galberth of Mt. Pleasant; son, Charles Porter “Buddy” Smith of Mt. Pleasant; granddaughters: Laci Buie, Montana Smith, Jana Galberth, Autumn Galberth; grandson, Cane Buie; and great grandchildren: Madison Buie, Mai Buie, and Cali Buie.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Smith; son, Steve Buie; and brother, Bobby Reed.

Pallbearers will be: Steve Mangrum, Dwight Watkins, Noah Mangrum, Wayne Reed, Ricky Connor, and Barry Connor. Honorary pallbearers will include: Kenneth Jenkins, the staff of NHC Columbia, and the staff of Hospice Compassus.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Faye’s doctor, Kelley Scharrer and her special caretakers and friends, Penny Odom and Christy Henson.
