Mary Gilbert of Columbia, Tennessee

April 16, 1942 - March 24, 2021

Mary Virginia Gilbert, age 78, a resident of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 27th at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends from 1:00pm until the 2:00pm service at the funeral home.  Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on April 16, 1942 in Columbia, Mary was the daughter of the late Curtis Jones and the late Mary Dawson Armstrong. She was a graduate of Carver Smith High School and previously worked many years for General Electric. She enjoyed playing softball and basketball. She loved to sing and was an excellent cook. Above all, she loved her family. Mary was a devout Jehovah’s Witness.

She is survived by her sons: Willie James Gilbert of Antioch, Avery Gilbert of Columbia, Jonathan Gilbert of Columbia, Jeffrey (Tracy) Gilbert of Columbia; daughter, Daffeny Gilbert of Columbia; brothers: Norman (Carolyn) Dawson of Columbia, Major (Terri) Jones of Nashville, A.J. Jones of California; sister, Ora ae (Wade) Thomas of Nashville; nine grandchildren; and nineteen great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Eddie B. Fleming, Curtis Jones; and grandson, Tonalius Gilbert.
