Mattie Louise Virginia Armstrong

Mattie Louise Virginia Armstrong, age 88, a resident of Columbia, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at her residence.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with Demetrius Nelson officiating. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on September 17, 1934, in Giles County, Mattie was the daughter of the late Jack Lee and the late Janie Lee. She was a graduate of Cornersville High School. Besides her work as a homemaker, she enjoyed reading, watching television, and was an excellent cook. She was the oldest member of Carmack Boulevard Church of Christ. A sweet woman who was loved by many, Mattie will be deeply missed by those who knew her.

She is survived by her children, Jannie Armstrong of Columbia, Annie Davis of Columbia, Mary (Charles) Norris of Columbia, George Armstrong of Columbia, nine grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Cecil Armstrong, son, Joe Douglas Armstrong, daughter, Carolyn Vanessa Armstrong, son in law, Cecil Davis, and siblings, Leonard Pigg, John Thomas Pigg, and Sarah Pigg.

Mattie’s grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
