Nancy Tyus

Nancy Tyus, age 92, a resident of Columbia, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2023, at her residence.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 3, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. A visitation will also be held on Monday from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on March 14, 1931, in Billingsley, Alabama, Nancy was the daughter of the late Erskin Downs and the late Lena Shepard Downs. She attended Autauga County Schools and was a 1971 graduate of Kettering Senior High School. She attended Wayne Community College and Shaw College. Nancy accepted Christ at an early age. She married Ozell Tyus on January 15, 1951; he preceded her in death on November 24, 2021. She worked for the City of Detroit for thirty years before retiring.

She is survived by her children, Leslie (Beatrice) Tyus of Detroit, MI, Gloria (Boyd) Kinzer of Brentwood, TN, Jean (Lorenzo) Davis of Prattville, AL, Valeria Railey of Atlanta, GA, Letricia (Karate Joe) Thomas of Chandler, AZ, Gregory Tyus of Australia, and a host of other family members and friends.
