Ms. Pamela Gail Mathis, age 66, of Pocahontas and Selmer, TN, Pamela passed away at 1:45pm on July 10, 2020, at Alive Hospice Residence in Nashville, TN.

Born on February 7 th , 1954, in Norfolk, Virginia, Pam was the daughter of the late James Horace Mathis and the late Sadie Lou Ingle Mathis. An Army brat, she and her family lived in many places prior to moving to Pocahontas, TN, where she lived the majority of her life prior to moving to Selmer, TN. She attended Middleton High School. She worked for many years alongside her parents at Mathis Grocery and Restaurant in Middleton, TN. She worked at other restaurants throughout the years. Pam had a big heart and enjoyed talking to anyone she met. Pam smiled at everyone she passed in life. Her heart was open and loving to everyone. More than anything, she loved her family. She especially loved all of her grandchildren. Her grandchildren and their friends loved her and affectionately called her PamPam. She soon was known to all - children and adults alike as PamPam. She shared her birthday with her grandson Riley and this held a very special place in her heart. She was a Christian and a member of Pocahontas Baptist Church.

She is survived by her significant other John Babcock; her loving daughter, Christy Cherkesky and her husband Itay of Franklin, TN, and her beloved son Jerry Wayne Sims of Providence, Rhode Island. her previous daughter-in-law Robin Sims. PamPam is survived by her grandchildren:Hallie McKinnie of Franklin, TN, Andrew Sims & Riley Sims of Lincoln, Rhode Island, Aden Cherkesky & Kelly Anne Cherkesky of Franklin, TN. She is survived by her sisters: Wanda (Landon) Mathis Shearon and Merrie (Ray) Mathis Jones, her Aunt Bonnie Vaughn, Uncle Wendell (Martha) Ingle, Aunt Faye Mathis-Saucier, & Louise Frazer; her niece Stacie Shearon and nephews: Billy Wilkerson, Bryan McQueen, Chad McQueen, & Matt Shearon; and several great nephews and many wonderful friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 11, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church in Pocahontas, TN. The family will receive visitors from 4pm to 6pm with a memorial service immediately following, with Brother Steve McKee officiating. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to either First Baptist Church of Pocahontas, TN, or Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN, or the American Cancer Society.

The family would like to express a special thanks to the many home health providers that cared and loved Pam during her illness.
