Mr. Paul Leslie Cates, age 83, a resident of Hampshire, passed away Tuesday morning, March 23, 2021 at NHC Columbia.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 1PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rick Points officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Grove Cemetery in Summertown. A visitation will also be held on Thursday from 12-1PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on September 11, 1937 in Maury County, Paul was the son of the late Homer Cates and the late Mandy Lou Ella Baker Cates. He attended Water Valley School and was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from the Donaldson Taxicab Company in Nashville. He loved a good home cooked meal, and in his younger years enjoyed farming.
He is survived by his sons: Eddie Cates of Summertown, Michael Cates of Summertown; daughters: Sandra (Jeff) Nix of Hampshire, Vernie Biggs of Lebanon; brother, James Cates of Lewisburg; sister, Lorene Cates of Columbia; six grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Della Cates; son, David Cates; brother, Lonnie Cates; and sister, Betty Botello.
Pallbearers will be: Timothy Beard, Terry Cates, Dave Cates, Josh Biggs, Darrell Cates, and Monty Wren.
