Peggy Jean Johnson Palbas

Peggy Jean Johnson Palbas, age 85, a resident of Chapel Hill, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Maury Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rick Points officiating. Entombment will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. A visitation will also be held on Thursday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on April 2, 1937, in Columbia, Peggy was the daughter of the late Perry Turner Martin and the late Mary Jane Jett Martin. She was a 1955 graduate of Columbia Central High School. Peggy was a hard worker and worked several years as a seamstress at Weather Tamer and over thirty years at Durango Boot Company. She later worked seven years at Apcom Inc. before retiring. In her younger years, she loved to dance and enjoyed flowers and gardening. Peggy had a special love for her beloved pets. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son, Tim (Greta) Johnson of Columbia, daughter, Sherry Johnson of Chapel Hill, sister, Gayle Fitzgerald of Santa Fe, grandchildren, Abby Leigh Johnson Cathey, Hilary Jade Johnson, great grandchildren, Jadea Merideth Osborne, Jillian Malynne Osborne, Emerie Paetyn Holt, and great great grandchildren, Jace Knox Elliott and Maizy Lorraine Leonard.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Guy Johnson, latest husband, Charles “Junior” Palbas, and siblings, Earl Martin, Charlie Martin, Mary Eberlee, Mabel Muncy, Dorothy Church, Christine Harvey, Louise Henry, and Mattie Bell Breece.
