Peggy Jane Tillery

Peggy Jane Tillery, age 86, a resident of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at her residence.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 14, 2022, at 3:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. A visitation will also be held on Sunday from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on January 16, 1936, in Maury County, Peggy was the daughter of the late Cabe O’Neal and the late Iva Lou Moser O’Neal. She married James “JD” Tillery on March 21, 1951; he preceded her in death on December 18, 1997. She worked for several shirt factories as a seamstress and was a seamstress for the public for many years. Peggy also worked several years in housekeeping services for Maury Regional Medical Center. She enjoyed watching game shows and working puzzles, and when her grandson and great grandchildren were younger, she enjoyed watching them play sports. Above all, she loved her family, especially her grandson, great grandchildren, and great great grandson. She was of the Baptist faith.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Wanda (Eddy) Hemphill of Columbia, TN, sisters, Joanne Whorley of Lincoln County, TN, Mary Lee Rennie of Lincoln County, TN, Laura Calvanchio of Texas, grandchildren, Eddy (Sandy) Hemphill of Theta, TN, great grandchildren, Baylee (Bailey) Boshers of Columbia, TN, Quinton (Hala) Hemphill of Theta, TN, great great grandson, Beckham Boshers, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Leo, Dexter, James, CL, and Pete O’Neal, and sister, Betty Asberry.

Pallbearers will be Eddy Hemphill, Eddy Hemphill, Jr., Quinton Hemphill, Bailey Boshers, Rex O’Neal, and Matt O’Neal. Honorary pallbearers will include the doctors, nurses, and staff of Hospice Compassus.
