Phyllis Fredericka Calvin

In the beauty of a new day never before given by God, Lonnie and Francine Cathey were blessed with a baby girl, Phyllis Fredericka, born March 15, 1954 in Columbia, Tennessee.  Phyllis was called from labor to rest on Sunday, June 9, 2024 in Okemos, Michigan.

Phyllis grew up in Columbia and attended the public schools of Maury County, and graduated from Central High School.  After graduation she moved to St. Petersburg, Florida for a few years and later relocated to Lansing, Michigan.  She sought employment with General Motors Corporation and later moved to their Saturn Company in Spring Hill where she continued her employment until her retirement in 2005.

Phyllis was known for her quiet and shy spirit.  She loved her peaceful life and had a passion for interior decorating, shopping, collecting Barbie dolls, and traveling with her granddaughters.  She lived a full happy and  independent life until her health began to decline.  Whereupon, she relocated back to Michigan close to family.

Phyllis F Calvin,  leaves to cherish her precious and loving memories with her two sons: Ken Gordon of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Eric A McClain of Lansing, Michgan; one aunt, Else McLaughlin of Chicago, Illinois; two sisters: Brenda (Bobby) Richardson of Lansing, Michigan,  and Joyce Walker Cathey of Birmingham, Alabama; two brothers: Larry (Kimberly) Cathey of Anaheim, California, and Charlie Walker of Birmingham, Alabama; two granddaughters: Iyanna Graham of Memphis, Tennessee, and Kaliyah Rollinson of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by:   her parents, Lonnie and Francine Cathey, stepmother, Georgia Walker Cathey; three brothers: Leon Cathey, Meredith Walker and Alvanus Walker.
