Rachel Ruth Deweese, age 80, wife of James Hardin Deweese a resident of Columbia, passed away peacefully January 2, 2019 at Magnolia Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by family and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Monday January 7, 2019 at 2 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Reverend Cynthia Andrews Looper officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday January 6, 2019 from 4-8 PM and again on Monday from 1-2 PM at the Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery at a later date. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on January 1, 1939 in Columbia, Rachel was the daughter of the late Harrison Walker and the late Maggie Hindman Walker. She attended Andrews school and was a cheerleader throughout her school years there. She was a graduate of Columbia Central High School class of 1959. Rachel was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church.
Rachel previously worked at Weather Tamer in Columbia for many years, and most recently worked as a registrar in the ER department at Maury Regional Medical Center for 15 years before retiring. She loved collecting African Art, going to yard sales, listening to Blues music and watching Richard Pryor movies. Rachel was also a fan of the Rolling Stones and Cher.
In addition to her loving husband James Hardin Deweese, whom she married on December 11, 1959, she is survived by her sons Mark Deweese of Nashville, Jamie Deweese of Columbia and Bryan (Christy) Deweese of Columbia; grandchildren: Destiny Deweese and Dylan Deweese; and one great grandchild: Paislee Meade. Special niece: Brenda Stanford along with several other nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters Colleen Fraser and Jennifer Williams.
