Raymond Eugene Richardson

Raymond Eugene Richardson was born December 28, 1937 in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee to Raymond and Ernestine Richardson. He departed this life on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at NHC Columbia Healthcare Center.

A homegoing celebration will be held on Sunday at 2PM at St. Paul A.M.E Church in Columbia with Rev. Dennis Lawson Eulogist. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the United States Air Force. His body will lie in state on Saturday from 12-3PM with visitation from 3-4:30PM at the funeral home. An Elk’s Memorial Rites Service will begin on Saturday at 4:30PM. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Eugene was educated in the Maury County School System and graduated from Clarke Training School in Mt. Pleasant in 1955. He served in the United States Air Force and the National Guard. He retired from thirty-five years employment at Zeneca, Inc. (formerly Stauffer Chemical) where he worked as a shipping and receiving supervisor. He was later employed as a school bus driver for the Maury County School System.

Eugene accepted Christ at an early age at Jones Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, and later became a member of St. Paul A.M.E Church where he served faithfully as a Steward, member of the finance committee, and treasurer of the Celia Wingfield Society for many years. He attended and supported the church until his health would no longer allow.

Eugene was very active in the community, as he served as a Maury County Commissioner in the 3 rd District for eight years, the City of Columbia Beer Board, board member for the South Central Human Resource Agency, Elks Harlan-Flippin Lodge, American Legion Post 170, Ambassadors Golf Club, Friendly Fifteen Social Club, and Godfathers Motorcycle Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters – Henrene Kennard, Maybellene Clark, Lillie Witherspoon, Emma “Jackie” Green and Ella Fleming.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife of fifty-seven years, Charlene G. Richardson; daughter: Tammye (Donald) Robinson; two devoted grandsons Justin Mathers and Cameron Symlar; great-granddaughter Marlie Mathers; four sisters Lena Webster and Sharon (Rick) Watson of Indianapolis, IN, Linda Richardson of Warrenville, IL, and Donna Martin of Atlanta, GA; two brothers Forrest Richardson of St. Louis, MO and devoted brother Michael (Sandra) Richardson of Mt. Pleasant, TN; three step sisters Annie K. Dobbins, Ruth (Willie Lee) Foster, and Eldora Edwards; two brothers-in-law Dwight Green and Worley Witherspoon; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
