Rebecca Burgett, age 98, and a resident of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at NHC-Maury Regional Transitional Care Center.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home Monday, with David Craig officiating, following the service, she will be laid to rest in Lone Oak Cemetery in Lewisburg. A visitation will also be held on Monday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on May 21, 1926, in Maury County, Tennessee, Rebecca was the daughter of the late John Edward Westmoreland and the late Georgia Shrader Westmoreland.
Rebecca was raised in Culleoka, Tennessee and graduated from Culleoka Unit School in 1945. A gentle Southern lady, Rebecca found joy in the simple yet profound aspects of life. She loved her daily Bible devotional time, reading Christian books, and solving word searches. She was a faithful member of Graymere Church of Christ. Rebecca and her beloved husband, Doug Burgett, shared 67 years of marriage. Her servant’s heart and selflessness were evident in all she did—always putting others before herself. Rebecca treasured her family and found immense joy in their company. Rebecca also took great joy in wearing her pearls, finding comfort in their timeless elegance. She lived her life as a beacon of love, faith, and compassion, and her gentle spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Rebecca is survived by her son, Doug (Shelia) Burgett, Jr., of Moss Point, Mississippi; daughters, Dona Carnahan (Howard Gower) of Lawrenceburg and Diane (Evan) Allen of Columbia; son-in-law, Trey Vaughn of Brentwood; ten grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and two great –great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Doug Burgett; daughter, Elizabeth Vaughn; brothers, Howard Westmoreland, George Westmoreland, and James Westmoreland; sisters, Desdie Westmoreland, Mary Edith Westmoreland Gillum and Billie Westmoreland Young; and granddaughter, Anna Burgett Logan.
Pallbearers will be John Carnahan, Eric Carnahan, Joey Burgett, Jesse Burgett, Trey Vaughn, Evan Allen, Jr., and David Abney II
