Mr. Miller was born in Eutaw, Alabama and grew up in Winchester, Tennessee. After brief stays in Illinois and Indiana he moved to Columbia, Tennessee in 1969. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, married July 25, 1961, Carolyn Edith Master Miller, daughter Carol Diane Griffith of Columbia, two sons Michael Scott Miller and Brian James (Melissa) Miller of Mt. Pleasant, two grandchildren Shea Kristin (Roger) Farley of Lewisburg and Joseph “Joey” Miller of Mt. Pleasant, three great grandchildren, Jillian, Eli, and Ethan Farley. He is also survived by his sister, Mrs. Ann Raby Young. He was preceded in death by his parents John Samuel & Annie Elizabeth Raby Miller and brother John Samuel Miller.

He was a graduate of Franklin County High School in Winchester, earned a B.A. degree from Bethel University, a Master of Divinity from Memphis Theological Seminary, and a Master of Education from Middle Tennessee State University. He was ordained to the ministry in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in 1958. He has had pastorates in Virginia, Illinois, Monroe City, IN and at West Point, Santa Fe, Chapel Hill, Ash Hill (forty years), and Belleview Churches in Tennessee. He was also a thirty-seven-year educator in Maury County School System: McDowell Elementary for twenty years, serving as Interim Principal twice, Whitthorne Middle School, and full-time Adult Education for those who did not graduate during the usual twelve years. He spent seventy-eight weeks over the years as director or worker in church summer camps. He also worked part-time for a short while with First Farmers Bank. He was an active member of the Columbia Civitan Club and served as President for several different years.

His great love, beyond his family, was for the children and youth he taught and pastored. Though not rich by earthly standards, he considered himself wealthy from the love, forgiveness, and blessing of the incomparable Lord Jesus Christ. It was his lasting hope that he somehow make a positive and Christ-like difference in the lives of those he knew.
