July 12, 1931 - November 24, 2021

Rev. Ozell Tyus, age 90, a resident of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at the VA Hospital of Nashville.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery. Following all services, a repass will be held at Farmers Family Restaurant; 5021 Trotwood Ave., Columbia, Tennessee.

Rev. Ozell Tyus was born July 12,1931 to Bertha Lee Tyus and John Henry Stoudemire in Autauga County, Alabama. He accepted Christ early in life and joined Unity Baptist Church. He married Nancy Downs of Billingsley, Alabama in 1951. He was drafted in the Army, where he served in the Korean War in 1952. He was Honorable Discharged in 1954. They relocated from Alabama to Detroit, Michigan. He joined New Liberty Baptist Church, where he was called to the ministry. He also sung with the Detroit Messengers Gospel Singers. He worked for the City of Detroit for thirty years, then retired and moved to Columbia, Tennessee.

Ozell was preceded in death by his father and mother and brothers Clifton, Gabel, Charles, Willie James, John Stoudemire, Henry, John Tyus, Eddie and Leslie. His sisters were Aldoshia, Annie Mary, Ruby and Velma.

Ozell leaves to cherish: a loving and devoted wife, Nancy Tyus; six children, Leslie ( Bea) Tyus, Gloria (Boyd) Kinzer, Jean (Lorenzo ) Davis, Valerie Railey, Letricia (Karate Joe) Thomas, Gregory Tyus, and Nellie Watson. He leaves his sisters, Birdie Nelson, Loretta Freddie, Doris Douglas, Kathie Leverette, Gloria Hamlett and brothers, Curtis Burns, Wesley Burns, David Stoudemire and Andrew Stoudemire and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nephews and nieces.
