Mr. R.M. “Buddy” Burns, age 84, resident of the Hilltown Community in Santa Fe, passed away early Tuesday morning October 23, 2018 at Life Care Center of Columbia.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 26 th at 2:00PM in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Ledbetter and Pastor Brian Talley officiating.  Burial will follow on the family farm in Burns Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4-8 PM and again on Friday from 1:00PM until the 2:00PM service.  Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Buddy was born August 6, 1934 and was the son of the late Robert Maxie Burns and the late Margaret Louise Shouse Burns. He married the love of his life, Daisy Walton Burns on January 27, 1951, who preceded him in death March 16, 2015.  He retired from Union Carbide.  Buddy was a longtime member of Santa Fe Baptist Church and a former deacon and Sunday school teacher.  He was a devoted husband and avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by his children: James Burns, Wilma McConnell, Joanne (Wayne) Pruitt, Brenda (Mike) Johnson, and Debbie (Charlie) James; sisters: Shirley Patterson, Polly Price, and Linda Riddle; twelve grandchildren: Jeannie (Mark) Fairhurst, Jason McConnell, Amanda (Jeff) Boshers, Brandon (Kindal) Pruitt, Bryan (Crystal) James, Thomas Burns, Daniel (Jessica) Pruitt, Diana James, Danielle Daniels, Ricky James, Whitney Garner, and Austin Garner; and eighteen great grandchildren.

Along with his wife he was preceded in death by his daughter: Betty Sue Burns; brothers: John Burns and JB Burns; sisters: Girlene Burns, Esterline Tiller, and Mary Francis Stanfill; and daughter in law: Judy Brown Burns.

Pallbearers will be Jason McConnell, Thomas Burns, Brandon Pruitt, Daniel Pruitt, Austin Garner, Ricky James, and Bryan James. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Santa Fe Baptist Church and Dr. Doug Kennedy.
