Robert "Bobby" Lee Harris

Mr. Robert Lee “Bobby” Harris, age 87, a resident of Columbia, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2020 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 PM at Polk Memorial Gardens with Jeff Jacob officiating. Heritage Funeral Home will be assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on December 22, 1932 in McCains, Tennessee, Bobby was the son of the late James Lee Harris and the late Pellie Mae Erwin Harris. He married Sara “Sally” Virginia Beasley in 1950; she preceded him in death on April 21, 1976. Bobby worked at Union Carbide as a lab analyst for forty-three years before retiring in 1996. He was a founding Babe Ruth League baseball coach in 1960. In 1962, he and Mahlon Ring coached the Babe Ruth All-Star State Tournament team in Johnson City. He served as a Maury County Commissioner from 1969-1994. Bobby was a member of Craft Memorial United Methodist Church for sixty-eight years. He enjoyed playing the guitar and fiddle with The Singing Volunteers and was a member of the Duck River Wood Turners.

He is survived by his son, Bobby (Connie) Harris; daughter, Carol Wilson; brothers: William A. “Buddy” (Carolyn) Harris, Clyde Edward (Linda) Harris; grandchildren: Nathan (Becca) Harris, Sarah Harris Barry; great grandchildren: Lillian Elizabeth Barry, Ava Catherine Barry; devoted nephew, Allen Underwood; brother-in-law, Bill (Linda) Beasley; and sisters-in-law: Mildred (Gray) Beasley and Nita (Bob) Ramsey.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Scotty Harris; brother, Andy Harris and sisters, Margaret Harris and Carolyn Sue Bowen.

Pallbearers will be: Mike Harris, Brad Harris, Brian Sanderson, Jonathan Barry and David Barry.

Honorary pallbearers will include: Charles Tisher, Jim Cook, Parker Frame, Colt Harris Tipper, Case Taylor, Kynleigh and Trevor Woodard, Bob Farmer, Wanda Williams, Michelle Sullivan, Eddie Rogers, Dr. Charles Ball, Dr. Justin Kropf, the staff at Maury Regional Transitional Care Center, the staff at Brookdale Columbia Assisted Living, the Babe Ruth players, and special caregivers: Terra Woodard, Elizabeth Grooms, Autumn Beech, Tim Jones, Ashlan Brown, Isabella Flores, Dana Lemay, Alexis Cervantes, Tammy Bradshaw, Pam Rountree and Kiera Thompson.

Memorial donations may be made to the Bigbyville United Methodist Church: 3894 Bigbyville Road, Columbia, TN 38401.
