Mr. Robert Carroll “Bob” McVicker, age 100, a resident of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at Life Care Center.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 2PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Brown and Rev. Jimmy Rochelle officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019 from 4-8PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on July 31, 1918 in Hayes County, Nebraska, Bob was the son of the late Malachi Sedwick McVicker and the late Nancy Goucher McVicker. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He married Marjorie Paul on April 11, 1944; she preceded him in death on March 12, 1988. During his lifetime he worked as a farmer, licensed insurance agent, mechanic, and business owner. He enjoyed wood working, fishing, and small engine repair.
He is survived by his daughters: Nancy Johnson of Columbia, Cindy Dodson of Columbia, Carol (Donnie) Boyd of Mt. Pleasant; son: Rob (Michelle) McVicker of Lawrenceburg; grandchildren: Carla Johnson, Bethany Yeager, Davy (Wendy) Johnson, Cheryl (Tim) Thurman, Greg Dodson, Kevin (Terri) Boyd, Breck (Becky) Boyd, Nick (Stephanie) McVicker, Beau (Joanna) McVicker, Royce (Courtney) Lurie, Karson (Josè) Guardado, Jessup (Betsy) Manning; twenty-three great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; cousin: Marilyn Tunks (Bernard) McMillen; special niece: Carmen Kerr; and special nephew: Larry Curtis.
Along with his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother: Ruth Goucher McVicker; son-in-law: Dewey Johnson, grandson-in-law: Tom Yeager; siblings: Melvin McVicker, Catherine Curtis, Ellen Underhill, Elsie McVicker; and cousin: Leona Tunks.
Pallbearers will be: Davy Johnson, Greg Dodson, Kevin Boyd, Breck Boyd, Nick McVicker, Beau McVicker, Royce Lurie, Jessup Manning, Tim Thurman, and Josè Guardado.
Honorary pallbearers will include: Brian Owens, Tim Brashears, nieces and nephews, the members of Faith Freewill Baptist Church, and the staff of Life Care Center.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Life Care Center, the staff of Avalon Hospice, and special friends: Margaret Rochelle, Grace Farris, and Pam Rochelle for their care and compassion during this difficult time.
