Roberta Louise Cheatham, age 79, a resident of Snellville, Georgia, previously of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at Emory Johns Creek Hospital.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 15, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Springs Cemetery. A visitation will also be held on Monday from 12:00-1:00PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Roberta Louise Cheatham was born Roberta L. Burton on August 22, 1939 to Robert and Mary Burton. She attended Marion School Systems in Marion, Indiana and matriculated in Teacher Education from Ball State University in Muncie, IN for her bachelor’s degree. She earned her master’s degrees from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Roberta was offered a teaching position in Detroit Public Schools and later promoted to the Administrator of the Adult Education Program in Detroit.
In 1990 she married her college sweetheart, Dorris A. Cheatham and moved to Columbia, Tennessee where she taught at Columbia State Community College and Spring Hill High School before retiring.
Roberta was a devout Christian accepting Christ at a young age, and later became a Deacon for many years at Hartford Memorial Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan. Her Faith was embedded in teaching inside and outside of the classroom. Among her other interests were traveling with family and friends and she was an avid reader.
Roberta leaves to cherish her memory, Roxanne Rogers of Snellville, GA., Renea Ricketts (Michael) of Indianapolis, IN., and Dea Moore-Young of Muncie, IN. Grandchildren, Reyanna Reeder of Snellville, GA., Ashley Ivy (Keith) of Muncie, IN., Gary Moore (Gretchen) of Muncie, IN., and Keisha Ricketts of Indianapolis, IN. Great Grandchildren, Langston Balfour and Keityn Ivy both of Muncie, IN. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Roberta was preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband, Dorris A. Cheatham and her only sister, Gloria Bass.
Pallbearers will be: Gary Moore, Jr., Michael Ricketts, Louis Sanders, and Scott Turner.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Roberta Cheatham be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association: 478 Craighead St #200, Nashville, TN 37204.
