Rosemary Hamilton, age 81, resident of Columbia, passed away Friday, March 22, 2024, at Belvedere Commons in Franklin.
Rosemary was born on March 12, 1943, in Cotton Plant, Arkansas, the beloved daughter of the late George W. Proctor and the late Mary Adelaide Proctor James. She led a multifaceted life, leaving a legacy of laughter, creativity, and love. Rosemary was a retired flight attendant with US Air, where she undoubtedly charmed passengers with her wit and warmth. She also graced the stages of New York clubs as a talented comedian, spreading joy with her humor. Additionally, she shared her insights and experiences as a writer, contributing articles to newspapers and penning a book reflecting on her journey as a mother, her career, and her adventures in beauty pageants. She was named Jr. Miss Arkansas, Semi-finalist in Jr Miss America, Miss Woodruff County, First runner up to Miss Arkansas Fair Queen, Miss Arkansas Valley, and Miss Arkansas Forestry Queen.
Rosemary pursued her education at the University of Arkansas, embodying a spirit of curiosity and lifelong learning. She was renowned for her vivacious personality, always ready with a smile and a joke to brighten the day of those around her. Her zest for life ensured that there was never a dull moment in her presence. Above all, Rosemary cherished her role as a mother, taking immense pride in her two sons, Jim (Beth) Hamilton II and John (Frances) Hamilton.
Rosemary is survived by her devoted sons, her step granddaughter Phoebe and her husband Jack, her loving sister Martha Halstead, and her brother George W. (Judy) Proctor. She leaves behind cherished memories with her grandchildren, JT Hamilton and his fiancée Emma Harrison, William Hamilton, as well as her step great granddaughter Valerie. Rosemary will be deeply missed by her nephews, Dr. Chris (JoAnn) Proctor, Dr. Jason (Michelle) Proctor; nieces, Adelaide (Mark) Spizer, Bess (Ben) Lee; great nephews, Wyatt Proctor, David Proctor, Sam Proctor, Henry Spizer, Edward Spizer, Albert Spizer, Gray Lee, and Thomas Lee; great nieces, Nicola (Sam) Churchhill; great great niece, Diana Churchill; and special friends, Elizabeth Muse White, LeAnne Hamilton, and Betty Hamilton.
Along with her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, John Thomas James and her sister, Carole Bess Proctor Hawks.
Honoring Rosemary’s requests, she will be buried in Humboldt, Tennessee with her sister, Carole and her parents, George W. Proctor and Mary Adelaide Bess Proctor.
