Minnie Ruth Skillington

Minnie Ruth Skillington, age 90, a lifetime resident of Snow Creek Road in the Santa Fe Community and formerly a resident of Brookdale Senior Living, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2020 at Life Care Center.

A graveside service will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, March 15 ^th at Santa Fe Cemetery with Keith Baker and Sherry Ladd officiating. A visitation will also be held on Sunday from 12:00 – 3:30 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ruth was born July 6, 1929 at the “homeplace” on Snow Creek Road in Santa Fe and lived there her entire life, until she moved to Brookdale with her sister, Ann in 2015. She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Lois Woody Skillington. She attended Santa Fe School, and was a member of the Santa Fe Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She spent her entire life working at the homeplace, helping her mother and father and late brother John Robert on the farm. She enjoyed working in the garden and canning food for her large family.

She was a huge fan of Country Music and fan of the Grand Ole Opry, listening to it every week for seventy-five years, up until her last few months of life. She also made many trips to Nashville to see it in person.

Ruth always enjoyed all of the family holidays and cook-outs provided by her mother and brother, Dewey. Since she was from a family of eight children, there was always a huge crowd and a lot of fun.

A favorite of her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews, Ruth is survived by sister, Faye Skillington Bohannon of Santa Fe, brothers David Skillington of Santa Fe and Dewey Skillington of Santa Fe. There are several nieces and nephews that survive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John Robert Skillington, Joe Frank Skillington; sisters: Rachael Skillington Fraser and Ann Skillington.

Pallbearers will include Ricky Skillington, Terry Skillington, Gerry Skillington, Charlie Skillington, Travis Hann, Steve Carmichael, and Cole Carmichael.
