Sandra Knowles Burns

Sandra Knowles Burns, age 79, beloved wife of Douglas Burns, and a resident of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at her residence.

A native of Maury County, Sandra was born on June 19, 1944, and was the daughter of the late Ernest W. Knowles and the late Helen Hall Knowles. She was a 1962 graduate of Haylong High School and married Douglas Burns on September 17, 1966. She devoted numerous years of her professional life to Central Service and the Credit Bureau. A dedicated volunteer at Riverside Elementary School during her daughter's attendance, Sandra was also a longtime member of the Parent Teacher Association. Her interests included reading, crossword puzzles, and embroidery, but above all, she cherished moments spent with her family. She was of the Church of Christ faith.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Beth Marie (Jim T.) Hamilton, II of Columbia, TN, brother, Gary Knowles of Mt. Pleasant, TN, sister, Teri Ann (Bobby) Nolen of Summertown, TN, grandson, John Travis (fiancé, Emma Harrison) Hamilton, nephew, Mike (Christina) Knowles, great nephew, Zachary Knowles, special friend, Janice Carol Jones, and numerous cousins.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Tommy Knowles and Edwin Knowles.

The family will celebrate her life privately. She will be laid to rest in Maury Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
