Shelby Jean Cates, age 72, a resident of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rick Points officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on May 7, 1950, in Maury County, Shelby Jean was the daughter of the late Lonnie Frank Sharp and the late Opal Irene Chapman Sharp. She attended Haylong High School and was a member of Halls Chapel Church of Christ. She enjoyed gospel music and country music, especially Kenny Chesney. Shelby Jean was a social butterfly who loved everybody, and everybody loved her. She had a very special love for her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Tim (Sandy Holt) Cates of Mt. Pleasant, Lisa (T.K.) Kicklighter of Mt. Pleasant, Floyd (Crystal) Cates of Mt. Pleasant, brother, Donald “Duck” (Sharon) Sharp of Columbia, sister, Cathy McNabb of Mt. Pleasant, grandchildren, Alicia (Scott) Vandiver, Britney Kicklighter, Christopher Collins, Heleyna Holt, Peyton Cates, Hallie Cates, Charlie Cates, great grandchildren, Paisley, Heavenly, KaMiyah, Braylon Cook, Braden Cook, and special friends, Peggy McKennon, Mike Bolton, Eddie Lee Hinson, and Jonathan Sims.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Sharp, Gary Sharp, and Charles “Shorty” Sharp.
Pallbearers will be Justin “Cookie” Cook, Brandon Sutlife, David Collins, Randall Johnson, Brennon Johnson, and Keith Odom.
