Mr. Sherley Arden Lemon, age 96, a resident of Columbia, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Life Care Center.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 1PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Rochelle officiating. An inurnment will follow in the Garden of Freedom in Maury Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the United States Army. A visitation will also be held on Saturday from 12-1PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on December 31, 1922 in Onaway, Michigan, Sherley was the son of the late Daniel Lemon and the late Amelia Mercier Lemon. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was wounded the day after D Day, spending eleven months in a body cast in England.
Sherley worked over thirty years as a barber. He enjoyed hunting and shooting but above all was an excellent husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his sons: Dennis (Sharon) Lemon of Columbia, Terry (Marcella) Lemon of Columbia; grandchildren: Shannon (Don) Krug, Shawn (Jamie) Rochelle, Denise (Russ) Barnes, Terri (Lee) Vaughn, Nicole Chapman; and thirteen great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Louise Lemon on December 20, 2017, and eleven brothers and sisters.
