Shirley Rouse Hazard

Shirley Rouse Hazard, age 91, a resident of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at Poplar Estates Senior Living.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Parkway Baptist Church with Bro. Mike Roberts officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in Polk Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and again on Thursday from 12:00 – 2:00 PM at the church. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Shirley was born on June 21, 1932, in Bristol, Tennessee, and was the daughter of the late Charles Campbell Rouse and the late Tula Johnson Rouse. On April 4, 1950, she married Hugh C. Hazard who preceded her in death on August 16, 2006. Shirley dedicated many years of her career to the admitting department at Maury Regional Medical Center before enjoying a well-deserved retirement.

A devoted Christian, Shirley was a faithful member of Parkway Baptist Church, where she shared her musical talents by playing the piano and singing in the choir. She was an active volunteer in numerous church activities and was known for her warm, welcoming nature, as she never met a stranger. Shirley found joy in gardening, canning, crocheting, and cheering on the Atlanta Braves.

She is survived by her sons, Larry (Dolores) Hazard of Florida, Terry Hazard of Thompson Station, TN, Steven (Vicki) Hazard of Columbia, TN, Kevin (Lesli) Hazard of Columbia, TN, Jeffrey (Karen) Hazard of Columbia, TN, nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Christopher Hazard, two brothers, five sisters, and daughter in law, Bambi Hazard.

Shirley’s grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will include her neighbors of Gardendale Drive and members of the Sunday School Joy Class at Parkway Baptist Church.
