Shirley Hickman

Shirley Hickman, age 73, resident of Columbia and a longtime Employee of the Maury County Trustee’s office, passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 20 ^th at 3:00 PM at Jones Cemetery with Mike Roberts officiating.  Burial will follow at Jones Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home.  Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Shirley was born October 17, 1947 in Maury County and was the daughter of the late Shirley Anderson Galbreath and the late Lela Estella Holton Galbreath.  She worked as a deputy trustee for the Maury County Trustee’s office for many years. She was a kind person who helped many people with their tax relief. Shirley enjoyed going to yard sales and to antique auctions.  She also collected glassware and had beautiful antique furniture.  She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter: Kim Wentzel of Cornersville; Grandchildren: Mack Wentzel and Jenna Beth Wentzel (Alden Morrison); Great Grandchildren: Kadaleena Wentzel and Samuel Wentzel; Sister-in-law: Linda Hickman Tomlin; several nieces and nephews; and her lifelong companion Pomeranian “Lady.”

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: Sammy Hickman; daughter: Melissa Dawn Hickman; brother: Sonny Galbreath; and sister: Betty Jean Stacey.

Pallbearers will be Mack Wentzel, Samuel Wentzel, Jeff Stacey, Charlie Morton, Jon Strong, Justin Gobble, Hayden Burton, and Shane Davis.  Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Gentry Galbreath, Alden Morrison, Paxton Morton, Enoch George, Chief Ashley Brown, Jerry Attkisson, and Allen Michael Stacey.
