Shirley Ann Surface Johnson, age 83, a resident of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Maury Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Travers officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4-7PM at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at New Hope Cemetery in Pollard, Arkansas on Sunday at 10AM. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on March 21, 1935 in Burton, Michigan, Shirley was the daughter of the late William Earl Surface and the late Annabelle Mae Graydon Surface. She married Charles Irwin Johnson on June 2, 1956; he preceded her in death on July 1, 2016. Shirley worked as the head cook for Grand Blanc High School where she served as the President of the Afscme Local of Cafeteria Workers. After retiring in 1992, she and her husband moved to Kimerling City, Missouri where they enjoyed fifteen years there raising their grandson, Chase. They moved to Tennessee in 2007. Shirley was a founding member of Flint Baptist Temple when she lived in Flint, Michigan and was most recently a member of Northside Baptist Church in Columbia, Tennessee. Shirley enjoyed collecting red birds and loved listening to gospel music. She loved her daughters, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters: Rhonda (Floyd) Crandall of Columbia, LaDonna Johnson of Columbia, Kimberly (Donnie) Lockhart of Columbia; grandchild: Chase (Brittany) Crandall; great grandchildren: Katarina and Dyson; nephews: Tab Surface, Leslie Surface, William Surface, Jeremy Horton; and sister in law: Janet Surface.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Robert, Russell, and Sherry Surface.
Family will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to: Northside Baptist Church: 127 Theta Pike, Columbia, TN 38401 or New Hope Cemetery in Pollard, Arkansas.
