Shirley Vaughn Smith

Shirley Vaughn Smith, age 82, a resident of Columbia, Tennessee and formerly of Brentwood, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2021.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 2:00 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Shirley was born on June 13, 1938 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late Charley and Nancy Vaughn. After graduating from high school, she met her late husband J. Ralph Smith. After marrying they settled in his hometown of Nashville eventually making Brentwood, Tennessee their home. Shirley was a full-time mom and devoted her life to raising her daughters and making sure they were well taken care of and loved. She enjoyed spending time with her children and later her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cheered them on at their sporting events, attended their musical recitals and other various activities.  She was a member of the Church of Christ and along with her husband made sure to bring their children up to love the Lord just as she did. She volunteered weekly at Westside/Centennial Hospital for many years. Shirley also enjoyed eating out at a good restaurant and traveling to any vacation spot with a beach, especially Hawaii. Shirley will be missed by all who loved her.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, J. Ralph Smith. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her seven brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her three daughters, Karen Morgan, Candy Wehby, and Jamie Voss (Judson); grandchildren, Emily Flores (Eddy), Jordan Prather (fiancé, Rob), Daniel Morgan, Anna Wehby, Will Wehby, Quin Wehby, Jamie-Cate Voss, and Jackson Voss; great-grandchildren, Landon, and Jacob Flores. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, and in-laws, Wade and Sandra Smith.
